Organizing is a path to a better life
You have the power, so why look around?Tidying up is not an end, it is a means. Where do you want to get to through organizing? This is a question that needs to be thought about from the beginning to the end of organizing. Why do you want to organize? If you talk to some people who are a little older and say for the thumping life. They will probably wave their hands and say they have everything they need now and are already happy, and then nag you a handful of times that you can’t waste things or throw things away, that you used to suffer, and now you have to eat more and buy more and hoard more to prove affluence. Is it really affluent?
Two days ago I went to home visits, to see a dozen children’s homes, most of the welcome common place a little neater, a more private bedroom and so on there is the beginning of the chaos. I took advantage of the teacher’s home visit duties, I went to observe the child’s homework place, but also borrowed the reason for better learning for children, the corresponding parents to buy desks, remove clutter, change the empty room for the study and other changes proposed.
Among these children, there is no shortage of families whose homes are affluent but who do not yet have an affluent view of education. Some families have built a large house, but even a comfortable place for children to write homework are not, just very casual with a summer mat to build a place for children to write there or squeezed in a corner of the bedroom to make do, more exaggerated there are chairs without sitting sofa armrests even stools. Is it really can not afford to buy a set of tables and chairs? Obviously not to give a desk, but did not realize that a desk, a clean and tidy place conducive to children more focused on learning.
This is also the current situation of many people, for organizing, not can not do, but did not realize that organizing is a life-changing step-by-step breakthrough. We always look outward too much, wanting mentors wanting to listen to advice wanting it to be best for others to help us get it done. In fact, we forget that we have the power to change.
Think about it, every single thing in our room, which is not selected by ourselves or our family members to come in? Each item actually has your philosophy and intention hidden in it. If we are willing to organize well, we will know exactly what we want. We always say we don’t know what we want, but if we look around our room and take a good look, we will find that the answer is all around us. It’s just that sometimes we turn a blind eye to it.
For all of us as well, I was thinking about what would be beneficial for the general population. Probably the phrase, organizing, is a path to a better life. Of course there are countless ways towards a better life, such as learning, worship, making money …… This is just one of them. The advantage of this kind is that you can make a difference without the help of others, just by yourself. Each of us, in itself, has the power to change ourselves, so why bother looking around for it?
The essence of organizing is to focus, choose, and put away.
There are too many people talking about tidying up, there are already many kinds of schools alone, breakaway, stay the way, minimalism, sweeping power, thumping life tidying magic …… In fact, no matter which one it is, at its origin, it can be summarized into three steps: concentration, selection, and putting away.
Concentrate, that is, to bring together items in the same category. Why centralize? It is mainly to give us a clearer and more intuitive concept of the number and state of the items we own. For example, not all our clothes are piled up on the bed, that from time to time we feel we have no clothes to wear we do not know that we also own a mountain of clothes, right? The categories of organization can be divided into five major categories: clothing, books, documents, small items, souvenirs. Each category can be further subdivided into categories, such as clothing can also be divided into shoes, tops, pants, dresses, underwear, socks, hats, hair accessories, bags and so on and so forth. You can decide to focus on a large category or a small category according to the length of time you can organize, it does not matter.
Next is the choice, the choice needs to emphasize the point is, the focus is not to choose to throw away, but to choose what they are particularly want to stay or do not hesitate to stay. In fact, their own items are part of themselves, if you just keep looking for what to throw away, is always looking for their own bad place, looking for more will lose themselves, it is easy to fall into the emotions of self-doubt and discouragement. And focus on what to leave behind, it will start the positive and happy side of the subconscious, thinking that they are surrounded by so many good things, have so many things they cherish will feel very happy.
Some of you may say, “Well, I want to keep everything. Then when you encounter such a situation, you have to stop and think about what else is behind the idea of wanting to stay in everything like this? Is it avoiding something? Or do not know how to choose? Or just like more? Or want so much to show what? This is the process of looking at yourself, you have to find your own inner recognition of a standard, if you have something that you want to leave behind, but also make you feel very much like it is very heartwarming, then it can be. Carrying out organizing does not mean that you must throw away to do so, but after organizing your environment so that you feel the frequency of receiving all happy and beautiful is right. Everyone will be a little different.
For example, Ando Gunn-sensei gave an example in class where a girl lived alone, but she bought ten cups and couldn’t choose between them and didn’t know what to do. The teacher said, “Choose three cups you like the most and try them out. The girl looked embarrassed and the teacher knew that this was not the right way for her.
At that time, I listened to the lesson based on my own experience guess, she may not actually want a lot of friends to it? Other students have also said different ideas, but in fact the teacher later asked such a question when the girl found out what she really thought inside herself.
The teacher asked, “Why did you buy so many cups?” The girl realized that she had bought so many cups to make up for the fact that she hadn’t bought the expensive one she liked the most. So she went happily and bought the one mug she had always wanted.
Yes, she had eleven mugs. Whether she finally gave up the others or gave them away or used them for something else, we don’t know, but it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that she found her own internal standard of judgment, different from yours and mine, but she was happy. Very often, this is how we have to keep changing the way we ask ourselves in the process of organizing, and then we can discover what we really want.
The last part of putting away is to fix a place for each item and return it to its place after use. Just like in the classroom, there is a fixed location, you know where your items are, saving you the trouble of looking for half a day and not finding them. Items are also like the teacher to the students to adjust the position, you can try more, how more convenient and more conducive to use.
Organizing is not just organizing, it is history, it is the future.
On the road of organizing, walking, more and more find that organizing is not just organizing, it has the tension of life. Organizing, you will face their own past, you will slowly see their future also has a trace. My biggest feeling is that when I first looked at organizing, I was just addicted to organizing, hoping to change my life in this way and wondering whether I would take the path of a professional organizer. Later, when I went to look at organizing again, I found that I had started to go open and come to clarity, and it turned out that organizing could link psychology, feng shui, decorating, aesthetics, housing design …….. And what I am about to link is organizing and school, organizing and parents, organizing and children.
On organizing, I was harsh at first, and just thought I couldn’t go blindly instructing others without being fully organized. Once I was organized, I wanted to look down on others who thought it had to be done the way it was. For example, to organize items I am also demanding must be clothes to start, but for some people, clothes is her biggest roadblock, I let her face this is really a bit cruel. In fact, organizing can also start from the entranceway, but also from the simple and easy to see the effect of the place to start. The most important thing to learn is that everyone has a different standard, and everyone can organize according to the standard they want. What I want to do is not to look down on others but to help them, and of course there must be people in this world that I cannot help. Then stick to your beliefs while judging how determined the other person is.
Speaking of which, there is a statistic that I would like to share with you in the organizing class. According to the mature Japanese organizing and storage system, it takes six visits to a home, each time for five hours, to complete the most basic and comprehensive organizing by asking an organizer to enter for consultation and guidance. That means you need at least 30 hours to complete your home with guidance. So when you do not have enough 30 hours or more to organize yourself, do not easily give up and say it is useless. Any time you change yourself, it never happens overnight. May you choose to organize, you will stick to the end. It doesn’t matter if it takes longer, the important thing is that you started and are continuing.
So where do you want to arrive through organizing? Home is a place of ultimate relaxation, home is used to create a better future charging station, do not turn it into a clutter irrelevant just sleeping shelter. So, at the end of the day, what kind of ultimate relaxation do you want your home to have at the end of the day? May you share it with me. Blessing for you ~ may you achieve it soon.
