Startsing with organizing your “home” properly
Today I studied “The Way of Cleaning” by Hidesaburo Keyama, and I was very inspired by the book. I can’t help but be inspired by all this, and I deeply admire this old man, because a small thing can have such a big impact on his own company and on Japanese society, and now it has been introduced to the country, and also established the Sweeping Road Learning Center. “Cleanliness and refinement, the teachings of the Yi”. Taoism also emphasizes that “the sage does nothing and teaches without words.” There is also the Buddhist song “Sweep the ground, sweep the ground, sweep the heart, the heart does not sweep the empty sweep the ground. Everyone sweeps the heart, and there is no place in the world that is not clean”, all of which admonish us to practice the path of sweeping away.
Some people may ask the question, do we also learn to clean the toilet and urinal like Mr. Keyama did every day? I don’t think so, but it is a reminder that we need to unite knowledge and action. I also think that it is not necessary to understand the unity of knowledge and action as profound as Mr. Yang Ming’s teleological thought, but we start from our own side, from ourselves, and Mr. Hellinger, the founder of Family Systems Alignment, made a very good point – organize your home well.
What does the phrase “organize your home well” mean? He said that you put things in order so that you can be free from worry and others know how to use them without being around to tell you. This is called “order”. A well-organized home retains the flavor of family (family style) and becomes a new family. Because it is so organized, the family organizes the home with love, looks to the future with sincere eyes, and keeps things in order for the sake of life and love, the house is ready for new things to come, and new things are bound to visit. This is a good reminder that when a home is organized, it can welcome more things, including relationships, resources, money, new life, etc.
There may still be people who wonder, “There are so many things in the house, the children’s toys are everywhere, the closet is full of clothes, and the kitchen is full of pots and pans, so there is no way to organize them. Yes, every family’s life is more or less like this. How can we practice the Way of Sweeping and do what we know and do what we do? I think the first place to start is with yourself:
How many clothes do you have? How many pairs of shoes? How many pairs of socks? How many pairs of socks? How many pieces of underwear? And so on, clean up the inventory clearly and make a good record of what you have worn, not worn, still need to wear, no longer wear the bottom of the box, one by one inventory out. The ones you still need to use are kept and organized, and the ones you don’t need are given away, donated, etc. When you count out your clothes, you suddenly feel deep inside that you have so much, so much, but we usually want more, in fact, we have enough, material life is very rich, but do not see, but rather lack of whether we have the ability to carry. The I Ching begins with “The sky is healthy, the gentleman to self-improvement; the earth is kun, the gentleman to thick virtue to carry things. “Finally, “the virtue of carrying things”, how to “carry things”? How can we carry what we have? This tells us that we need to be “virtuous”, how to be “virtuous”? Wealth and virtue are related, virtue and gain, so there will be virtue before gain, virtue is about inner, gain is about outer, virtue is inner quality, gain is outer bearing. It is said in the “University”: “The gentleman is careful about virtue first, there is virtue and there is man, there is man and there is earth, there is earth and there is money, there is money to be useful. Virtue is the essence, and wealth is the end. The external capital and the internal end, and the competition for people to take.” So the wealth is thick to accumulate virtue, because virtue is the root and wealth is the end. That’s why Confucius also said that those who are not alone in virtue will have a spirit.
This is all by means of sweeping, inventorying, and reviewing so that we have a connection with things, and with the connection comes the flow of energy, and when the energy flows, all other aspects will flow, so Confucius said that those who are not alone in virtue will have a spirit, and that is what he was talking about.
Organize your home well – “home” is the origin place to achieve self-transcendence. According to the ancients, the birth, growth and adulthood of the self depend on the home. Without the shelter of home, the body, mind, and spirit would be adrift and unsupported. As Mencius said, “The foundation of the world is the state, the foundation of the state is the home, and the foundation of the home is the body.”
To sweep away the Tao is to sweep to our heart, to organize your home well is to organize your heart well, only home is where the heart lives! Take action, because the best time to plant a tree is ten years ago, followed by now.
